City of Wamego to Accept Only Cash, Checks During Software Transition

The City of Wamego will temporarily suspend electronic payment options beginning Monday, November 24, as it transitions to a new software system.

Through the remainder of 2025, residents will only be able to pay their utility bills with cash or checks, city officials announced. The transition means online payments, credit and debit card transactions, and autopay services will be unavailable during this period.

"While this upgrade will ultimately make things smoother for everyone, we will have a few things that we must do along the way, and we appreciate your patience as we make this important move," city officials stated in the announcement.

Autopay services will cease processing in December, and all customers will receive their monthly bills by mail during the transition period. Autopay will not become available again until customers create accounts in the new system, expected to launch in 2026.

City Hall, located at 501 Ash Street, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to accept payments, though business hours may vary during holidays. For after-hours payments, a drop box on the north side of City Hall remains accessible at all times. Residents using the drop box should mark envelopes with their name and address or include their bill.

Starting after the new year, customers will have the option to create accounts in the new online system. City staff will provide step-by-step instructions and in-office assistance for anyone needing help with the setup.
