Bellevue Bridge Nearing Completion, Awaiting Final Striping

The long-awaited Bellevue Bridge project is in its final stages of completion, county officials announced during Monday's Pottawatomie County Commission meeting.

County Public Works officials reported that a walk-through inspection was conducted last Friday on the bridge, which connects Pottawatomie County to neighboring areas.

"It looks good to me," a county representative said during the meeting. "It's not open yet, but they're waiting on painting the striping."

Officials indicated that the bridge could potentially open very soon, pending suitable weather conditions. The county is anticipating that contractors might be able to complete the final striping as early as Wednesday, assuming temperatures are warm enough for the paint application.

According to the discussion, most of the remaining work has been completed, with only minor tasks like striping and possibly some seeding left to be done, which can be accomplished in cooler temperatures.

The project has garnered attention from state officials as well.

During the meeting, it was noted that Senator Rands' office has expressed interest in being involved in a celebration marking the bridge's completion.

Commissioners discussed the possibility of organizing an official ceremony to commemorate the opening of the bridge, which serves as an important connector between counties.

"That's amazing, that needs to be celebrated," one commissioner remarked about the project's completion, suggesting a possible "float under" event rather than a traditional flyover for the ceremony.

The Bellevue Bridge project represents a significant infrastructure improvement for the region, reestablishing an important transportation link between communities.
